Meet Leading Lines’ menu manager, Wyatt Smith!
As menu manager Wyatt is responsible for planning and organizing all the food, water filtration, and cooking gear that the team will need to fuel themselves on their nine day journey. He’s also channeled his inner Gordon Ramsay to create the trip menu, which includes an Outdoor Adventure program (ODA) classic: ‘Gado Gado Bro’ thai style pasta, as well as cinnamon buns, brownies and more!
While he hasn’t done a canoe trip on the Ottawa River before he’s spent plenty of time on the water both professionally and recreationally and has even completed trips of similar distance to the Leading Lines expedition. He has years worth of whitewater tripping experience and in the summer of 2019 he co-guided a 12 day and 325km canoe trip on the Missinaibi River from Mattice to Moosonee as part of Camp Iawah.

Wyatt’s goals include enjoying the nine days spent on trip as much as possible as they will likely be some of the last days that the team is all together before graduating and going their separate ways. To help remember the trip he also plans to take as many quality photos and videos as can. As a team goal Wyatt has put an emphasis on getting portion sizes just right to feed a group of nine hungry paddlers but to not over pack at the same time.
Although he already had plenty of experience guiding Wyatt originally joined the Algonquin College’s ODA program to further explore his love of canoeing. Since then he’s not only grown as a paddler but also taken an interest in climbing and rope work and hopes to explore these activities further in the future.
After graduation Wyatt plans to start a tree planting contract alongside Leading Lines teammates DJ and Lucas before returning to guide at Camp Iawah in July and August. After the summer he has his sights set on skiing chest deep powder in BC and exploring more of what the west coast has to offer.
